Do you want improved lighting between Cannon Lane and Townlock?
Back in 2016 work finished on a significant scheme to refurbish Townlock in Tonbridge. The area has been transformed and is a lovely and welcome part of the town, especially for local residents around Medway Wharf Road.
Following this Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council (TMBC) progressed a project which would see wider River Medway Riverside Environmental Improvements in Tonbridge. The most pressing part of this project would see introducing lighting on the footpath between Townlock and Cannon Lane. It is something I have consistently followed up with TMBC since May. This footpath is one of the busiest in the Town Centre. It provides the most direct link between the High Street and the industrial estate. During daylight hours it is picturesque along the River Medway.
However during evenings it causes safety issues for anyone wishing to use it. The footpath is increasingly narrow in the part which has no lighting, and there is no barrier between the footpath and the River Medway. We know this area is a particular hotspot for litter and graffiti as it passes Alsford Timber.
Over coming years the former Gasholders site will be developed and this will provide additional lighting in the area, similar to how lights are provided alongside Breach House, Davit House and Waterway House at Cannons Wharf. However this still means the part between the former Gasholders and Cannon Lane will not have any lighting.
That’s why I am asking for your views and support for this to be delivered as soon as possible. I know over recent years the Council has started to identify some funding and has done work on designing where the lights should be on the route. I want to help support them in pushing this forward as soon as possible.

Tonbridge is a wonderful town and we have an opportunity to help link different parts of our town together, make it safer for everyone living and walking around the area, and use our cars less for local journeys.
